Hi, I am 35 years old PhD student. My stipend is $2600; I will get some extra money from the IRS this year. I own $4500 car loan with 7% APR. I start Roth IRA for this year, and I started to save my emergency fund ($2000 till the end of May). With that being said, should I pay off my car loan first, then the Roth IRA?

“OP normally I would say pay off the debt, but since it's a relatively small amount, I'd contribute to your Roth. You only get one opportunity to make roth contributions, once the year is over (and taxes filed) that opportunity is gone for good. Retirement you will be very happy you made the contribution.”
