So we are a retired couple with decent amount of assets but nothing great but enough for a decent retirement barring unusual circumstances. If I were to kick the bucket tomorrow the issue would be my wife. Not only does she know nothing about investing, she is terrible with money. She isn't the type to splurge on herself but she gives it away. Obviously if I'm dead I won't be here to see it but is there anything I can do, set up, etc. to try and allocate her a monthly allotment so she could stick to that amount? I know that isn't foolproof but I think she might be able to do better than seeing "X" dollars in an investment account and go crazy with spending it quickly.
“setting up a trust with monthly payments sound like an excellent plan. On the other hand, aren't there companies out there who would buy thingsl ike this for pennies on hte dollar - so the holder get a tidy lump sum but said lump sum is way way less than the original amout. Also do you plan to tell wife about this monthly allotment thing? Will she be mad at you? I think I'd be mad at you.”
