I'm 40, already maxing 401k and Roth Ira. I was saving for a second home but changed my mind and now I have $115k to invest. I'm looking at these index funds and allocations. Funds have good returns, low expenses and the tracking error seems low. I appreciate any feedback! Fidelity 500 Index FXAIX. (40%) Fidelity Mid Cap Index FSMDX. (30%) Fidelity® Select Semiconductors Portfolio (FSELX) (20%)

“FXAIX is fine, FSMDX is probably narrower than you want to go, and FSELX is very narrow unless you have psychic abilities. If you're posting here, the answer is basically 100% VT (or, for some people, 100% VTI). They have low expense ratios, low tracking error, and they cover the broadest possible cross section of the market. The Boglehead idea is that since you can't know which part of the market will go up but you know that the wealthiest people in the world want the market to go up (and have historically succeeded), just invest in the whole thing.”
